Prerequisite For Membership

Must be at least 16 years of age at the date of joining

Must have the time available for a Safety Meeting and Training Drill once every 3 months, be available for a General Meeting once a month, and dedicate at least 11 hours of time for responding to calls once a week

Must be able to lift and carry at least 100 lbs.
As a member of the Fairview Emergency Response Unit you will render care to the sick and injured. You are required to ride one shift a week consisting of 11 hours. The tours run from 7pm to 6 am every night and from 6am to 7pm on the weekends. You must attend all necessary meeting and drills required of the membership.
F.E.R.U. will provide all necessary training and equipment to each member to provide a normal standard of care. After being interviewed by the Membership Committee and approved by the General Membership, training for CPR and EMT class will be arranged for that member. You have a maximum of 18 months to complete the EMT Program. The EMT Program is a 120 hour course certifying the person in all areas of emergency medical care for the State of New Jersey. You will also receive training from F.E.R.U. in proper lifting techniques, equipment location, and driver training.
As a member you will have open access to the F.E.R.U. Headquarters and it's facilities which include comfortable couches to view or 6' x 4' projection Television Screen. We also have ample sleeping quarters, learning materials, and a complete kitchen with soda and snack machines. The borough of Fairview is centralized in an urban area with access to many restaurants and food markets. Our organization responds to an average of 2000 calls a year so you are almost guaranteed work experience any tour you choose to ride. You will also make many new friends as you work with your crew as well as having the satisfaction of one on one interaction with individuals.
